I was intrigued by the discussions of Tileproxy on the show and decided to give it a try. TP doesn't run right away on Win 7 or Win Vista 64 as it has "unsigned drivers" you have to do some tinkering to get the drivers to load and run it as an administrator, but once it's done the results are really impressive. Since I have a pretty strong machine I decided to load up the 60 cm textures and take a flight around Utah. I have a special mesh of Utah that is kind of going to waste with default scenery. I was downloading the free Blue-sky scenery but that is a chore and a half as you have to get it little by little.

Well, the results are great. I am running REX 1024 clouds(any higher and they visual payoff is not worth the texture burden for me), and Active sky 6.5 which interfaces really well with FSX and has a very small footprint compared to the later releases of Active sky.

Also there's a new(to me anyway) tweak going around on the Avsim forums setting bufferpools to zero in high memory graphics cards 1gb+, and that has really speed everything up for me.

alright anyway on with the show.

I started off in the Beechcraft Duke which is too fast for tile proxy as it goes about 160 knots, notice the blurry ground textures at the bottom of the image.

The mesh and phototiles blend seamlessly

I took another pass of this town to let the tiles load and got much better results

Switched over to the Carenado C172, it's slow enough

Tileproxy + Rex + ActiveSky = Whoa!

These ground details blow me away, and the little cars complete the illusion.

I am sorry to leave this little town behind.

Thanks again Mark without your prodding I would never have seen this through...

Fantastic result! Shot no.2 really shows how well the mesh and the tiles match.
